I was unable to attend this year’s Pump Industry Awards, but while not quite the Oscars, I hear a good night was had by all. Oh and guess what? We won!

ABB and its partner, Inverter Drive Systems (IDS), won the Technical Innovation Product of the Year for an innovative algorithm that Blaise Ford of IDS developed for an ABB drive.

While we affectionately call this the “poo pump”, make no mistake that this is a serious development capable of cutting pumping times for sludge pumps in water treatment works by a staggering 90 percent. Just think of the energy saving alone. This is a staggering development that is duly recognised by the British Pump Manufacturers Association. If you work in water and are serious about your CO2 footprint, take a look here.
